The Clarion Foundation has no employees. We are run entirely by generous volunteers doing their part to ensure the continued health of the Clarion Writers' Workshop.

Volunteers can help the Foundation with fundraising efforts. And by donating their time and expertise in a wide variety of areas, they can also keep the cash costs of running the Workshop itself to a minimum by. So please consider pitching in. There's something for everyone, and it's a wonderful way to contribute and get acquainted with others who care about Clarion and the future of science fiction and fantasy.

To get started, please complete and submit the following form. Check all of the areas in which you have an interest.

When you click "Submit," the form will be sent by e-mail to the Clarion Foundation's Volunteer Coordinator at volunteer@theclarionfoundation.org.

Your Interests (check all that apply):

Databases -- If you have knowledge of database basics, we can use your help. Knowledge of specific db programs is less important than an understanding of the underlying principles of database work and an affinity for details. Help us maintain the data we use for producing an online Directory of Clarion Circle subscribers, generating mailing lists, and finding answers to statistical questions.

Desktop Publishing -- We're looking for people who are familiar with one or more page-layout programs. Volunteers must supply their own software. You'll help with tasks of many different kinds, from laying out ads, brochures, and newsletters to, possibly, producing books!

Graphic Design -- We need designers to produce artwork for brochures, ads, t-shirts, promotional merchandise, web pages, etc. We can use both web designers and print designers.

Web Page Maintenance/ Design -- The Clarion Foundation's web site is the single most labor-intensive endeavor we engage in, so we always need people with web experience. Many of our web-related jobs require no more than familiarity with basic HTML and CSS. But we can also use web designers, CGI wizards, and people with any and all levels of web experience.

Public Relations -- Do you know how to write and distribute good press releases? Clarion needs you! Your expertise can help us get the best bang for our advertising bucks, attract new subscribers/ donors, attract Clarion Workshop applicants, and generally get the word out about Clarion. You'll also help us develop Clarion merchandise, design subscriber drives, and hustle discounts for web site subscribers.

Bookkeeping -- Help the Foundation's Treasurer keep track of web site subscriptions.

Secretarial -- We need people to write and/or send out mass mailings or occasionally lend the Foundation's Secretary a hand with clerical tasks such as photocopying, sending out printed material, or putting together mailings.

Fundraising -- We're putting together a team of volunteers who can help us get donations and grants for the Clarion Workshop and can spearhead efforts to bring in new donors and retain old ones. Members of this team will also help with the Foundation's annual Clarion eBay auction and help devise and implement new fundraising methods for us.

Auction Staff -- The Clarion Foundation conducts two auctions each year. One of these is a live auction held at the World Fantasy Convention. If you're planning on attending, please consider helping us keep track of bids, bidder information, and auction items. The other auction is conducted on eBay and requires people with experience setting up and conducting eBay auctions and people to help ship items to the winning bidders.

Electronic Newsletter Staff -- If you have experience editing newsletters and getting them out on schedule, you're just the person we're looking for. Plus, we always need people to write columns and articles, provide book reviews, etc. We also need web wizards with a thorough understanding of e-mail lists. We plan to produce newsletters quarterly at first, possibly more often as time goes on.

Regional Chapters -- Organize local chapters of Clarion alumni and donors. Once a chapter is established, we need coordinators and volunteers to organize meetings and other local activities. No special experience required, just enthusiasm.

Convention Programming -- Work with concoms to make sure there are Clarion panels or birds-of-a-feather groups for Clarion alumni and those interested in attending the Clarion Workshop.

Convention Helper -- Distribute Clarion brochures and do general gofer work for the Foundation at conventions. No special experience necessary.

Mailings/ Shipping -- Stamp and address postcards; take mailings to the Post Office; fulfill orders for Clarion merchandise. No experience necessary. A great way to contribute on a short-term basis without a major time commitment.

Online Chat Host or Organizer -- The ideal chat host has interview experience or has hosted online chats before. Chat organizers help schedule chats (interact with some of your favorite famous writers!) and archive the transcripts (use those HTML skills).

Online Chat Guest -- The ideal chat guest is an author or editor with a fascinating point of view! (And, of course, excellent typing skills.)

Other -- Use "Notes" area to explain.
